Misleading endorsements on iTunes to result in settlement

Employees of a public relations firm who posted glowing reviews of online video games should have disclosed the fact that the firm had been hired by the video game developers, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). This appears to be one of the first enforcement actions brought by the FTC after it issued guidelines last year governing online endorsements.

Tips: If your employees are posting online ratings of a product or service that relates to your business (or a client’s business), then it’s time to educate them on how to do it right. Your Vigilant staff representative can help you tailor your policy to your organization, using our Model Policy, “Social Networking Policy” (6310) as a starting point.
